Shastas 30x30

The past two days have been so pretty and deceptive, making me anticipate spring. I know better than to actually believe that cold weather is behind us, but I thought I would download some flowers as a reminder that spring WILL arrive. --Not too much longer.

Little Brown Jug 8x10

After almost a month of computer problems and NO blogging, I feel like a first-timer again. I didn't realize that I am hopelessly hooked. Little Brown Jug is a study I worked up using a photo. I am trying to speed up and produce more, which means I am using smaller canvas. Although small (8x10) I  like  the reflected light in this painting. The notion may strike me to do a larger one; who knows?

Hydrangea Bloom 11x14 70.00

This painting was an experiment in technique using a product called z-gel. After painting the bloom with oils as usual and allowing drying, I applied a milky finishing product that I picked up an art show. The cloudy substance dried to clear, hard finish and gave the painting an antique, crackled look.  Clearly not for every painting; however, the look is unique and compliments some paintings. On this one, I like it.

Melon for One 16x20 $150.00

Melon for One was inspired by a magazine layout I saw years ago. I have always liked this painting because of the combination of the austere setting and colorful watermelon. a paradox in paint.

Recycled 16x20

Ever since I painted Recycled, I have kept a watchful eye for an old bicycle to use in this fashion. I am not one to accumulate old things just to have them, but I do like the idea of recycling them for a useful purpose. I have yet to find my old bike, so I guess I'll just keep painting them.

Updraft 16x20 $100.00

Updraft was painted from a photo taken by a friend who camped some days in TN. She shot a photo of the timberline while looking down from a peak. I asked if I could borrow the photo as a source. Although the painting is much different from the photo, I always give Dorrie credit for this painting. The eagles were added as an afterthought. I don't apologize for using photos; if I can't be on location, photos are the next best thing. Thanks, Dorrie, for being attentive to the beauty around you; so many people are too busy to notice.

Spring Thaw 8x10 $50.00

Ridiculous as it seems, after Christmas I get impatient for spring. Many days of winter lie ahead, but Christmas marks the end on my personal calendar. I spend January, February, and March anticipating warm days and blossoms. This study was painted in my back yard on a warm day in March when a jonquil peeked its head out from the cold earth. I took it as a good omen of things to come.
