Artist's Statement

A quote from Grant Wood describes a condition from which he and many of us suffer: taking too much for granted. Wood said, "...To my great joy, I discovered that in the very commonplace, in my native surroundings, were decorative adventures and that my only difficulty had been in taking them too much for granted." Woods' words ring with truth. My goal as an artist is to capture the wonder of the often overlooked ordinary, the commonplace beauty around us, those little details that make all the difference in our daily lives. The rough hue of rocks, lush blue woodlands, weathered wood grains, and distant meandering dirt roads never cease to appeal to me. I attempt to share the beauty from which routine blinds us. My work can be purchased on ebay or by contacting me personally.

Techo Fly 6"x6" 50.00

In techno color, this little guy is a fun piece to have around the house. I seldom paint with acrylics; however, this piece is acrylics with a z-gel glaze, which adds to his psychedelic appearance, I love him.

First Snow 11x14 75.00

The grayness of a winter storm is appealing to me. Although ominous, the heavy stillness of the atmosphere has an eerie sense that I find haunting, almost hypnotic. I tried to capture the sense of that sensation in this ranch scene .

Foggy Morning on Bridge 5x7. 50.00

I am drawn to old world locations, rock, mortar, and antiquity. Uhmm... I hope that isn't some kind of commentary on myself.

Bernard 16x20 175.00

Ok, so he's just a chicken, but Bernard thinks of himself as a king, regal  in his dignity. I suppose we need to give the guy a break.

The Old Bike 8x10

Remember? Life was simple; the hardest decision was what were you going to play on that long summer day. What would be for supper? What could be used to build the hideout? Then you grew up...

Foot Rest 11x14 $80.00

Having worn out a pair of shoes like these, I had to paint them.  ...so much fun. There has to be a story here.

Alert 16x20 $T

My son-in-law is a good amateur photographer, and I continually use his shots in paintings. This is one of the shots he took while hunting. I think he needs to forget the gun and just take photos. These deer look as if they were waiting on him and posed for the camera. Thanks, Seth, for your good eye.

Churchton 5x7 $50.00

One of my pleasant childhood memories is the sound of church chimes on Sunday morning. I didn't consciously listen, the music simply provided a background for the usual Sunday morning preparations. Like so many good things in life, I took the sound for granted, a  mere something that was there and would always be. Unfortunately, the chimes are no longer played, and I think we are poorer for the loss. Perhaps the world would benefit from a world-wide call such as church chimes to STOP and direct our attention to the source of everything, regardless of religious creed or persuasion. ...just stop, shut up, and listen.
