Sestet 6x12
A trip out west exposed me to the beauty of Aspen trees. I loved the play of light on their barks, such graceful, lovely things. Too bad they don't grow here, I would definitely want one. Anyway, I hope this little study does them justice.

Shady Spot at Cades Cove 8x10
When life seems to spin out of control, I only have to think of the days spent at Cades Cove, and peace of mind is restored. My friends and I spent a week plein air painting in the area, and we enjoyed every minute of it. This was a study done one afternoon. Hopefully, there will be other times.
Signs of Spring 8x10
I try to paint outside as much as possible-such a difference can be seen in colors and their values. This piece was painted in my back yard two springs ago. It was cold March afternoon, but I couldn't resist the one lone jonquil that braved the elements.

Silo and Barn 8x10
Barbara Mandrell sung it and I agree with her-"I was country before country was cool." We can't escape our roots. I use to have a tendency to apologize for mine. As I age, I realize how fortunate I am to claim those roots. This painting speaks of my heritage.

Trees for Two 8x10
My friend and I spent the day on the mountain during the fall. I managed to get three studies painted which included this one. The wind was cool, yet the sun was warm and comfortable. My neck blistered without my being aware. Plein air painting is one of the most enjoyable activities in which I have ever participated. For me, it's a spiritual experience. Some of the best moments I have ever lived have been spent painting outdoors. I know why Monet expressed a desire to die outside with a paintbrush in his hand. He got his wish. Maybe I will too.

Value Study 6x8
This painting was done at an art workshop at Lake Martin. When I got home with it, I decided to frame it. I have always enjoyed black and white photography. This appealed to me as well.

Lighthouse at North Point PEI 11x14
This past summer, some friends and I spent time on Prince Edward Island, Canada. PEI is a lovely island with wonderful plein painting opportunities. This study was painted on the North Point of the island. The day was windy and cold, but we had a wonderful time just the same. I tried to capture th.e overcast atmosphere. We were stationed on a hill overlooking this view. I can still feel the wind whipping the tall grass in which we were standing.
